FIREWALLS & VIEWING OUR SITE

An .htaccess file works by reading the referrer information and comparing it to a list of acceptable referrers. If the referrer is not present on the list, access is denied to the directory.  Some types of firewalls (most notably Norton & ZoneAlarm) block the referrer information, which in turn leads to the blocking of images.

Most firewall software has the ability to allow referrer information for a specific site. The following are instructions for doing so in Norton and ZoneAlarm firewalls. If you are using a different firewall program, you will need to refer to the product manual or product website for assistance.

For Norton users:

1. Pull up the main Config screen.
2. Double-click on "Privacy Control".
3. On the resulting Privacy Control screen, click "Advanced".
4. On the Advanced screen, scroll down under the web contents options to find our domain name.
5. Click our domain/site name once to select it.
6. Under "Information About Visited Sites" uncheck default and select "Permit".
7. Click "OK" on that screen and on the "Advanced" screen.

For ZoneAlarm users:

1. Open ZoneAlarm.
2. Click "Privacy" on the left-hand side.
3. Under Cookie control, choose "Custom".
4. In the Custom Privacy Options window, select the Cookies tab.
5. Deselect "Remove Private Header Information".
